Offered is a fabulous M1833 Ames Dragoon Saber dated 1837. The markings and condition of this saber is rarely found. The bade is nearly mint with needle point inscriptions of "N.P. Ames Cutler Springfield" and inspector mark of TW (Thomas Warner) who only inspected M1833 sabers in 1837. On the reverse is the "United States" inscription in needle point. Normally, needle point engraving did not produce a deep inscription and normal wear would erase the lettering but NOT in this case. Definitely mint inscriptions on this blade, like they were done yesterday. The quillion is also inspector stamped "WS" (William Smith) and HKC (Major Henry Knox Craig) and "ORD". The iron scabbard is in wonderful condition with no dings or dents and obtains the smaller ring amounts. The scabbard drag is also inspector marked "WS" on one side and "HKC" & "ORD" on the other. All of the original leather grip and wire is present with a pleasing mellow patina on the brass hilt. The pictures do not do this saber justice and you will be well-pleased with this example - guaranteed. Definitely an upgrade for most collections.

Offered is a beautiful M1852 Naval Officers sword manufactured by the "Ames Mfg. Co." and dated 1852 and inspected. There were only 500 "Ames" naval officer swords manufactured for that year. The blade is absolutely gorgeous and in mint condition. The hilt has much gilt and retains its original grip and wire wrap. The scabbard is made of leather and has its original mounts, screws and drag. The scabbard has strong stitching with no flaking on the leather. The scabbard drag has the inspector initial "P" on the reverse. The top mount has the "Ames Mfg. Co." stamp. This sword is a shorter variation of the M1852 with a 26" blade. The sword is complete in all respects and the scabbard fits perfectly to the sword. Dated and inspected "Ames" swords are highly desirable in the collector's market. Here is an opportunity to add one to your edged weapon collection.

A beautiful M1860 Staff Officers sword in mint condition, identified with a wonderful post war inscription. This sword is the original Civil War era manufacture not the many post-war M1860's you find on the market (but always labeled as Civil War). The images tell the whole story as far as the condition is concerned. The sword is complete in all areas with much gilt on the pommel and a blade with frosting that just "pops" out at you. Scabbard is untouched with original screws, mounts, and original washer. To top it all off, the sword was manufactured by the "Ames Mfg. Co." and so marked on the ricasso. The sword is housed in its original cloth cover with a World War I button attached. More on that in a minute. On the reverse clam shell is an inscription that reads "Presented to Oakley Hendry by his Uncle Thos. B. Oakley Late Lt. Col. U.S.A. Jany 1901". Beautiful inscription the way you want to find them with dark recess areas in the letters.
Thomas Boyd Oakley enlisted on 4/19/1861 at New York City as a Sergeant. On 5/13/1861, Oakley mustered into the 71st New York, Co. "A" and mustered out on 7/31/1861 at New York. Then on 9/4/1861, he was commissioned into The U.S. Volunteers Paymaster's Dept and served the entire Civil War and mustered out on 1/12/1866. Oakley was promoted to 2nd Lt on 6/19/1861 and Major on 9/4/1861. He died in New York on 10/3/1901.
As the inscription states, there is no doubt that Thomas Oakley presented his Civil War M1860 sword to his nephew Oakley Hendry (his namesake) in January of 1901 and died nine months later. This sword has it all. Great item for the New York or identified edge weapon collector.

I really don't know where to begin on this rare item but lets start by saying there are very few of these examples available on the market today and especially in this nice condition. No one really knows how many Type I were manufactured by "Ames" but would have to say less than 40 or 50. Offered is the rare Type I style Artillery Officer saber manufactured by "N.P. Ames, Cutler, Springfield" and beautifully etched on the blade ricasso. The saber has the earliest style hilt with correct blade etching style for the Type I. What I like most is the patina on the hilt. The high relief parts exhibit a nice "gilt" look while the rest of the hilt has a darker even patina. The scabbard is fabulous with no nicks, bends, pushes and has a deep dark brown patina throughout. The blade etching is all there but exhibits a grey even look with no frosting present. The "Ames" address is clearly there and "stands out" nicely. This is the way you want to find them, definitely a war period piece and probably saw two wars - the Mexican & Civil War. Our price is fair but please compare to others on the market if you can find one.

A beautiful 1850's style bowie knife with etched blade that retains its original frosting. The scabbard is made of Morrocan leather with button style drag and fancy top mount. The knife handle is made of black ebony wood with no chips and one slightest hairline crack measuring one inch (noting for exactness as it is hard to see). The knife while in the scabbard measures 13 inches long. Definitely made for the American market as indicated by blade etching with rifle & rifleman's pouch. There is also heavy etching on the spine of the blade. Overall, an outstanding bowie knife that would "stand out" in most knife collections.
